2025 SD Chess Championship

Congratulations to all our champions! This year brought an impressive upset as unrated player Adam Kostas claimed the title of 2025 South Dakota Chess Champion with a flawless 5–0 score. National Master Josiah Jorenby secured second place, followed by Kunyang Li in third.

2024 Speed and Team

March 25 South Dakota Scholastic Chess Championship (open to K-12 students living in South Dakota)

April 22-23, 2023, Paul Salem Sioux Falls Open, at the Downtown Holiday Inn, 100 W 8th, Sioux Falls, SD 57104

2023 Dakota Open

The 2023 Dakota Open took place on January 21st and 22nd in Rapid City, attracting a diverse group of participants with varying skill levels. The tournament featured five exciting rounds, with many thrilling matches. Alexander Young emerged as the top performer, scoring 4.5 out of 5 points, with only Brogan McGrath managing to hold him to a draw in the fifth round. Noah Andrew Johnson also had a strong showing, earning 3.5 points and pulling off a 669-point upset against previous state champion Lyle Hanson. Mark Falk and Josiah Jorenby engaged in a closely contested fifth round battle, ultimately ending in a draw. We were grateful to have contestants from North Dakota, Wyoming, and Minnesota, as well as some talented young players who showcased the future of chess.
