News and Reports

Uncle Yermo is in Tekirdag, Turkey (Lat:40 58'39.00 Long:27 30'43.52) with his buddy Atalik. The tournament is being held Nov. 2nd-11th, 2016.

After draws in the first four rounds we receive word from across the ocean that Yermo finally draws blood against his brother in round 5. The Babe Ruth of Turkish chess shares some of his rating points in a surprising endgame on Sunday. Leaving chess fans across the midwest wondering if these guys will be sharing a cab back to the Holiday Inn. Chess fans in Turkey must be wondering if Suat was throwing the game as a courtesy for Yermo's gentle moves in round four or if he's just sandbagging now. Who knows? The sdchess.com's chief roving reporter had his passport expire on Sept. 25, just days before the plane left, so we can't bring you live video interviews but we have investigators combing social media accounts for answers and when we can verify the facts we will bring them to you. Keep checking back here for more updates.

Update: Yermo fights to hold a draw in round 6. We have a rest day to vote and round 7 begins Wednesday 1 am central and Midnight Mountain time to the west river folks.

Yermo is on the road again and finishing off 2014 the same way he did last year, in Las Vegas, playing in the North American Open. You can watch the live games or see what Stockfish has to say about Yermo's games at: sdchess.org/chess-games/2014-north-american-open

Yermo opted out of the cheap airline prices to Vegas and  took long way, first stopping in Lubbock, Texas  to see his friend Onischuk. Alexander Onischuk is the Coach of the Chess  Club of Texas Tech University, known as the Knight Raiders. Then on to Arizona to visit with his friend and former student Danny Rensch.
